The Basics
Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay are actually part of the same geological formation — a vast stretch of around 2,000 limestone islands in the Gulf of Tonkin. Halong Bay is the western section (and the UNESCO World Heritage Site). Bai Tu Long Bay is the eastern section, less accessible and therefore less visited.
Crowds
Halong Bay: Over 500 licensed cruise boats operate here. Popular anchoring spots can feel crowded, especially in high season. You will see other boats — sometimes many other boats.
